Jake Clayton East Coast Shotokan Karate Instructor

"I started training in Shotokan Karate in 2001 under Sensei Dave Kershaw 7th Dan (then 5th Dan) at Konjaku Shin National School of Karate, Grimsby. I was then part of SKIF and trained regularly with Hanshi Asano, 9th Dan. I graded up to Nidan (2nd Dan) under Hanshi Asano. Upon relocating to Norfolk in 2011, I started training at ECSK. I recognised the high standards maintained and felt this was definitely the club for me, I have never looked back! In 2015 I achieved my 3rd Dan under Sensei Ivor Garner and James Atkin-Wagg."

Simon West 3rd Dan

"I started my karate career in 2001 at ECSK under Adrian Christie and Ivor Garner. I went up through the ranks with Ivor Sensei and James Atkin-Wagg and graded to Shodan (1st Dan) in 2008. I achieved my Nidan (2nd Dan) in 2010 under my instructors and Colin Needham Sensei. Having embraced wider training with leading national, and international instructors, I Achieved my Sandan (3rd Dan) in 2016 under the same instructors.

Over the years I have truly come to realise the beauty and power of Shotokan Karate-do and try to embed the principles it teaches in all aspects of my life."

"I started training in 1997 at the age of five with the EKO ( English Karate Organisation). I had a break from training between 9 and 13 years old and re-joined at TSKR at 2nd Kyu. I gained my Shodan (1st Dan) in 2008 with TSKR and ECSK and then my Nidan (2nd Dan) in 2010 with ECSK. I trained up until 8 months pregnant in 2015, and now working towards my Sandan (3rd Dan).

I have trained for 18 years and I'm still learning, and still enjoying the Karate life!
